The Centre of Research and Development in Upland Areas (CERDA) is a Vietnamese NGO, established in 2004, a not-for-profit organization, works directly with grassroots people and local authorities, paying particular attention to disadvantaged groups to promote equitable access, use of natural resources and good governance to enable social, economic and environmental sustainability.

CERDA has accumulated experiences and knowledge in development throughout its many years of working with ethnic minorities in mountainous provinces in Vietnam. One of our working areas is the community- based natural resource management and climate change mitigation with the current focus on Reducing Emission from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) now. In relation to REDD, CERDA is a member of Vietnam UN-REDD program network and National NGO Climate Change network. Participating in the networks, and being an ethnic minority expert, we work as a representative of ethnic minorities to share the expriences, contribute our effort to maximize the concerns and interest and rights of ethnic minorities to be mainstreamed into the REDD process. On the other hand, CERDA, along with local organizations in seven countries, has partnered with Tebtebba in implementing the Climate and Forest Initiative 2009 Project entitled “Ensuring the Effective Participation of Indigenous Peoples in Global and National REDD Processes.” The project implements the following three major components: Education and Awareness Raising; Advocacy; and Research. Currently, we are doing the research on “Indigenous Peoples, Forests and REDD in Vietnam.” The result of the research will be used for the lobbying to make the rights of IP and local community better recorgnized at international and national levels.
